"Here to Help You Live Better" - Free Healthcare Program - Cleveland, NC
What would you do if someone in your family or a close friend had a medical crisis? Would you know where to go? Would you know who to talk to? Are you aware of the services that are available for your loved one? Have you had the conversations that ensure that the wishes of those closest to you are carried out?
Medical care can be complicated and especially so during this age of coronavirus.
Carolina Cares and Rowan County EMS are holding a FREE workshop on Wednesday August 18 at the Cleveland Town Hall from 1:30 to 3:00.
The workshop is ideal for anyone living with chronic medical concerns and for family members who may be working closely with a sick relative or friend. The focus is on planning ahead, so it's better to attend and get information before an emergency which can obviously happen to any of us at any time.
At the session, attendees will learn how to assemble a full care team. Anyone can have top notch care if he/she knows how to find and navigate the resources. Think how much better you'll feel if you can lean on a medical team with experience in dealing with hard issues in the medical field.
Another important aspect of care covered is starting the conversation about medical preferences. Most of us hesitate to bring up sensitive topics, and the workshop will help you see the need to do so and the words to get the ball rolling. In this year of coronavirus, it really is essential to have these discussions, since anyone could become incapacitated suddenly with covid -19 and related complications.
You'll be able to review, talk about, and get access to various forms and directives that can capture your own or the wishes of those in your circle. You or a loved one may not even know preferences at this point.
Guessing under stress after someone becomes ill is not a good plan. Studies indicate the 35 to 40% of such decisions do not actually match the wishes of those who need decisions made for them in a critical situation.
With the information at the free workshop, you'll be able to consider the options and make informed decisions which can then be applied if needed in the future.
Across the state of North Carolina, Rowan County ranks number 9 for aging populations, and Cleveland has a large number of older citizens who more often deal with medical crises. The county also comes in number 3 for aging veterans, so our service members are also an important consideration in per-planning individually and as a community.
If you are free next Wednesday August 18 1:30 to 3, contact smadow@carolinacaring.org or 704-775-3624 to hold your spot at Cleveland Town Hall.
Be sure to bring a face mask. Everyone involved will take care with social distancing and other safeguards.
