 Ebony Rivers Boyd - Running for Rowan County School Board   Ebony Rivers Boyd was at west branch Rowan Public Library today (10-8-2022) for a meet and greet with residents from the western part of the county. Ebony is running for seat 4 of the Rowan-Salisbury Schools Board of Education. “We know how to come together,” said Ebony. Although we don’t do it all the time, “we have the ability. We have the ability to show up as a force.” With a unique and varied background, Ebony says that she is able to relate and also “think outside the box.” She feels that she would add value to the board and a strong voice for the community. Ebony grew up in the area and attended Knox and graduated from Salisbury. She then spent six years teaching at the same schools as well as working for DSS and child support education. She is now in higher education. She said that she knows what teachers need, because she was a teacher in the local schools “not so long ago.” She “understands t...

 Sabrina Harris and Family Candidate for Rowan County School Board 2022 Sabrina Harris, who is running for Rowan-Salisbury Schools Board of Education, was at the west branch of Rowan Public Library in Cleveland, NC this afternoon (10-8-2022). She was accompanied by her husband, her two children currently at Mt. Ulla Elementary and West Middle, and her mother. Having her family along at the event fits right in with Sabrina’s goal of getting a “buy in from the whole family” when it comes to local education. Sabrina said that teachers need support. They need everyone to get involved. She said that it can be as simple as getting grandparents and aunties to come out to see the gingerbread houses the kids made for a class project. She has done that and also served as an assistant dance coach at North Rowan Middle School, on the parent advisory board for Head Start, and as a volunteer to read to classes. Rowan County Commisioners 2-17-2020 Meeting and West Rowan Library Notes

The Rowan County Commission monthly meeting tonight 2-17-2020 was a very quick meeting - lasting only ten minutes from start to finish. Chairman Jim Greene opened the meeting, and Chaplain Michael Taylor said an opening prayer. Greene noted that the prayer was for "solemnity" and that the prayer was said "for us and not for you." He was referencing some of the political upheaval surrounding prayers at local governmental meetings in previous years and the shift from board members rotating saying opening prayers to having a member of the religious community on board to do so. Before moving to business issues Greene noted that the overhead screen was new as was the projector. The old screen had fallen and was damaged beyond repair. The new system was good. Images were clear. Taxes and expenditures were the key items on the agenda. Commissioner Leslie Hedrick showed a number of graphs showing financial data.
