Cleveland, NC tries Zoom for January 2021 town board meeting - town members not happy

The monthly Cleveland, NC town board meeting was by Zoom tonight. The signal was not good, so it was hard to get a connection, and then there was no audio until around 7:54.

Pat Phifer said that there was no audio, because the commissioners were in closed session to discuss personnel. 

Zoom visitors messaged about the lack of audio, but there was no response. I drove up to town hall to let them know about the audio problem, but they were not answering the door.


When the audio was turned on, the commissioners were asked if they had any reports. 

John Bradford did not have anything to report.

Richard Taylor indicated that the ball will be rolling soon on the park. He gave some details which were not loud enough to make out.

Travis Summitt gave the police report. There were 44 somethings, 3 arrests, 43 stops, and 68 citations. There was a question from someone about the number of stops. It seems like citations would be a lower number than stops. I'm not sure due to poor audio on the Zoom meeting.

Gerald Osborne covered something - probably water/sewer, but I could not make out what he said.

Phifer asked if there was anything else, and Summit said that he had two estimates for the roof. They were $21,500 and $20,653. The names of the companies were not clear due to sound.

Phifer asked if they needed three estimates and then said he'd get another one,

Osborne asked if we have a warranty on the roof.

Phifer said that the roof is sixteen years old.

Osborne said that a lot of roof warranties are for 30 years and that we should check that.

Several minutes (the bulk of the meeting with audio) was about mowing. The town is going to contract out that job. Osborne and Phifer talked about the mowing around the town cemetery. Phifer talked about various jobs that landscapers do. 

Phifer then said that he wanted to move on the Miller Davis job. Per last month, the town is thinking about having them take over the town web site. The cost of that is in the article from last month. 

It appeared that the sign discussed last month had been purchased ($1850) and put on the wall behind Phifer.

  The Cleveland NC town board met tonight Monday 6-12-2023. All board members were present.  Proposed Changes to ETJ Control by State of NC Town zoning/planning chair, Bryan Little, addressed the board and asked that a letter be sent to the state of North Carolina objecting to changes in the ETJ rules so that the board would have time (an extra week) to draft an official protest resolution concerning the changes to ETJ.  ETJ is extraterritorial jurisdiction and is a one mile radius around the town of Cleveland. Cleveland Town Board Feb 2023 - Residents Unhappy About Goat Rules

Cleveland town board met tonight 2-13-2023 for the regular monthly meeting. All board members and the mayor were present and had new white town shirts with embroidered logos. The town finance officer made photos with the white shirts after the meeting.  Nineteen residents showed up for the meeting. Usually there are only a couple of people. Most of the attendees came in support of John and Mary Beth Babcock who signed up to address the board. The Babcocks were upset about the new code enforcement which was recently approved by the board. Cleveland NC Town Board 5-8-2023 - Finance Strategy Paying Off Big

  Tonight was the monthly board meeting for Cleveland, NC. Various budget issues took up the bulk of the meeting including a review of the new investment strategy. Last year, the town made $7,300 in interest for the entire year. Last month, with the new investment plan adopted earlier, the interest was $21,000 for just the single month. All board members voted to roll investments back into treasury bills as they mature and to continue with the current investment strategy. Ice Machine for Town Hall The board had voted previously to rent an ice machine for town hall and to pay maintenance. The board decided to go with a hotel type dispenser for sanitary reasons. Instead of digging into the ice, it would have a feed to dispense the ice.
