Cleveland, NC Town Board special meeting on wastewater and mowing

 

Cleveland, NC town board met today 2-19-2021 at 3:30 p.m. in a special session by Zoom. The meeting was to sort out a new wastewater treatment contract and to take bids for town mowing.

Commissioners in attendance included Brian Little, Richard Taylor, and John Bradford. Patrick Phifer, mayor, was also at the meeting. Travis Summit was visible on Zoom for part of the meeting.

Gerald Osborne had reviewed the wastewater contract prior.

The contractor said that items 8 and 10 on the contract were problematic due to insurance. A lawyer advised against adding the town to the contractor's insurance. Also, Phifer had discussed the wastewater employee mowing the grass and doing weedeating at the water treatment facility. The contractor was fine about doing that, but insurance was an issue. 

Commissioners voted to accept the contract with items 8 and 10 removed. Town maintenance will probably mow at the treatment facility as well as at the town park. 

The cost of the service was not stated (or was not audible on Zoom which had clear sound about 60% of the meeting). It was noted that the costs were lower than with the previous contractor. 

The second item on the agenda was a mowing contract to outsource mowing at various places in town including town hall and the cemetery. 

Commissioner Travis Summit logged on to Zoom at this point, and he spoke to the full board. The sound was not clear enough to be able to tell what he was discussing.

Phifer said that the mowing would be for 50 times (weeks?). That allows mowing during the warm months and some "blowing" of the town hall parking lot. 

The job of mowing for the town was opened for bids with plans for mowing to start in March. 

There were no items added to the special meeting agenda.

Cleveland Town Board Feb 2023 - Residents Unhappy About Goat Rules

Cleveland town board met tonight 2-13-2023 for the regular monthly meeting. All board members and the mayor were present and had new white town shirts with embroidered logos. The town finance officer made photos with the white shirts after the meeting.  Nineteen residents showed up for the meeting. Usually there are only a couple of people. Most of the attendees came in support of John and Mary Beth Babcock who signed up to address the board. The Babcocks were upset about the new code enforcement which was recently approved by the board. Cleveland NC Town Board 5-8-2023 - Finance Strategy Paying Off Big

  Tonight was the monthly board meeting for Cleveland, NC. Various budget issues took up the bulk of the meeting including a review of the new investment strategy. Last year, the town made $7,300 in interest for the entire year. Last month, with the new investment plan adopted earlier, the interest was $21,000 for just the single month. All board members voted to roll investments back into treasury bills as they mature and to continue with the current investment strategy. Ice Machine for Town Hall The board had voted previously to rent an ice machine for town hall and to pay maintenance. The board decided to go with a hotel type dispenser for sanitary reasons. Instead of digging into the ice, it would have a feed to dispense the ice.
